Family Equality’s Night at the Pier in New York City Raises Over $1M for LGBTQ+ Families at a Time of Unprecedented Legislative Attacks

Broadway legends Shoshana Bean (“Mr. Saturday Night”), Jason Robert Brown, Michael R. Jackson (“A Strange Loop”), the cast of SIX, trailblazers Jordan Roth and Richie Jackson, community advocate Lydia Gray-Holifield and more garner support for Family Equality

NEW YORK — This Monday, more than 600 guests gathered to celebrate Family Equality’s Night at the Pier, raising upwards of $1,000,000 for Family Equality’s critical work on behalf of current and future LGBTQ+ families. With 300+ anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country and increasing attacks on the rights of LGBTQ+ families, the funds raised will be essential to continue the battle ahead.

“We’ve seen what happens when other people tell our stories: shameful conspiracy theories and outright lies,” said Family Equality CEO, Stacey Stevenson, in their remarks on Monday. “But we will not let those lies abound. In one hundred years, the world will look back and see that this community mobilized, fought, and carved out a place for ourselves.”

“This level of generosity and support couldn’t happen at a more crucial moment,” says Family Equality Chief Development Officer, Matthew Ramsey. “On behalf of the entire team at Family Equality—and on behalf of families like mine—we are so thankful to all those who made this momentous evening successful. To our board of directors, our sponsors, our honorary chairs and event chairs, our amazing performers, and all those who showed up and used their voices for our families: Thank you.”
